In 2009 - 2010, U.S. endurance athletes were increasingly beginning to take part in the popular European sport of ski mountaineering, organizing race series and clinics. Two-time U.S. Ski Mountaineering Champion Monique Merrill helped create the COSMIC Randonée race series along with Pete Swenson in 2007 and also ran a series of short term SkiMo clinics for women.
